This program is designed to encourage creativity and stimulate imagination through museum activities, art appreciation, environmental awareness and exposure to ancient cultures.
Participants will have an opportunity to use the current exhibits of Charlie Brouwer and God City to learn about contemporary artists and their medium in order to create a work of art in a similar manner. They will also look at other artists such as Joseph Cornell, Louise Nevelson, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol who have used techniques such as assemblage and images of popular culture to create their unique art forms.
In addition to these art appreciation activities, a guest speaker from a local conservationist group will give a presentation on current environmental issues such as mountain top removal. Participants will develop a puppet show addressing these concerns.
Our final project will delve into the mysteries of the Mayans, by looking closely at Mayan architecture, art and culture.
Diane Adkins has been teaching art to children and young adults for over 16 years and has traveled extensively throughout Africa, India, Thailand, Brazil, Europe, and the world documenting the places through the use of watercolors, sketches and photographs.
